Paul is named league’s MVP in girls’ soccer
Senior Marina Paul of Laguna Beach High has been named the 2012 Most Valuable Player on the All-Orange Coast League girls’ soccer team.
Paul, a midfielder who is headed to Georgetown University, leads a cast of eight Breakers named to the all-league team. Selected as first team members from Laguna were senior defender Hannah Magstadt, junior defender Sarah Hewlett, freshmen defender Amy Hewlett and midfielder Audrey Pillsbury. Breakers named second team were senior forward April Carlson, freshmen midfielder Janie Crawford and goalie Kylie George.
Laguna (10-7-6), coached by Bill Rolfing, won its first Orange Coast League championship in girls’ soccer this year.
In boys’ soccer, four Breakers were named to the 2012 All-Orange Coast League. Making the first team were senior forward Joe Rousseau and junior forward Reece Barton. Second-team selections were senior defender Brogan O’Bryan and sophomore sweeper Taylor Davidson. Junior Gary Carbajal of Saddleback was named boys’ MVP.
Laguna, coached by Daniel Richards, earned a wild-card bid to the CIF Division 2 playoffs, won a postseason game and finished the year 9-7-3.
