Estancia 10, Laguna Beach 6 (eight innings)

LAGUNA BEACH — Junior Tyler Rios went three for five with four runs batted in and two runs scored for the visiting Eagles in their Orange Coast League opener Friday.

Rios belted a three-run double in the eighth against the three-time-defending league champion.

Junior Steven Macias was three for five with two RBIs for Estancia (6-1). He also stepped up as a pitcher. He recorded a strikeout with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh. He improved to 3-0 after 22/3 innings.

Senior Andres Hernandez struck out two in 51/3 innings.

Senior Brodie Pearce was two for four with two RBIs and a run for Estancia, which plays host to Godinez Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

Oxford Academy 2

NEWPORT COAST — Freshman Kellen Ochi pitched a complete game on Friday, helping the host Lightning open Academy League play with an upset of Oxford Academy, ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 6 poll.

The Lightning return to Academy League play on Tuesday, when they visit Crean Lutheran at 3:15 p.m.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Corona del Mar High swept two Division I pool-play matches, defeating Foothill and Orange Lutheran on Friday at Edison High.

Parker Brown had 13 kills and five digs to pace a 23-25, 25-12, 25-8 victory over Orange Lutheran. Remy Lamons added eight kills and Joe Ctvrtlik had 27 assists and four blocks.

Ctvrtlik had 31 assists in a 25-18, 23-25, 15-10 triumph over Foothill.

Lamons had 12 kills, while Joey Martino added seven kills and Jack Reed chipped in five kills and five blocks against Foothill.

CdM concludes pool play Saturday morning against El Dorado at Edison. Playoffs follow Saturday with the Gold Division at Edison.
