UCI duo stands out
UC Irvine senior Kassandra McCalister earned first-team All-Big West Conference honors and teammate Methlyn Onogomuho was named to the conference’s All-Freshman Team in women’s basketball.
McCalister, a 5-foot-9 point guard, averaged 13.7 points, 4.1 assists, both team bests, as well as 4.5 rebounds to help the Anteaters tie for third place in the regular-season standings.
McCalister’s 15.9 points per game in conference regular-season games was second-best in the Big West, as were her 3.9 assists per contest against conference foes.
She scored 36 in a home conference win over eventual Big West Tournament champion UC Santa Barbara and helped the Anteaters earn the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament and finish 13-16.
Onogomuho, a 5-11 forward, averaged 7.3 points and topped her team by averaging six rebounds per contest and totaling 42 steals.
Junior guard Jacquelyn Marshall, who averaged nine points and 4.6 rebounds and led her team with 29 blocked shots, received honorable mention in the all-conference voting.
