COSTA MESA — Newport Harbor claimed the team title in the modified scoring system to earn the first tournament crown in Coach Scott Tarnow’s 12-season tenure.
Brad Tapfer had four birdies and shot 73, while Carter Norris (74), Tyler Tashiro (75) and Mason Moody (75) combined for five birdies. The Sailors tied with Sunny Hills with 69 points, but scored more points on the 18th hole to win the tiebreaker.
Newport Harbor’s B team finished seventh and Estancia was eighth in the 28-team event.
Costa Mesa finished 27th.

DOWNEY — Tanner Tremaine shot one-over-par 36 to match his season-low round and lead the Lightning in the Academy League match Monday at Los Amigos Country Club.
Matt Marlin (season-best 39), Adam Wang (39), Ahed Eltamami (40) and Darren Chen (40) also scored for the Lightning (10-6, 6-1 in league).
Sage meets Brethren Christian on Tuesday.

IRVINE — Junior Todd Kitzens scored four goals and added one assist to lead the visiting Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League contest on Monday.
Junior Chase McElroy and freshman Ben Palitz had three goals apiece, while Aaron Khosh had two goals for the winners (18-0, 9-0 in league).
Frasier Anderson, Beau Golding, Chris Von Der Ahe, Jay Damon, Kyle Sherbourne and Rocky Feinburg also scored for the Sea Kings.
Freshman Hoyt Crance made six second-half saves, after senior Nolan Johnson stopped four Trojans’ shots in the first half.

CORONA DEL MAR — The host Sea Kings celebrated senior day by having all nine of its seniors who were available to play score at least one goal in the Pacific Coast League game Monday.
CdM clinched at least a share of the league crown, as it improved to 14-2, 9-0 in league.
The Sea Kings visit Beckman (8-1 in league) on Wednesday at 3:15 seeking a victory to claim the outright league championship. The game is at 3:15 p.m.
