The 2012 boys’ volleyball season came to an end May 10 for Huntington Beach and Ocean View, both of whom suffered second-round losses in CIF Southern Section playoff action.

Huntington Beach, champion of the Sunset League, was eliminated after dropping a tough, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19, 25-23, 10-15, Division 1 road match at South Coast League runner-up San Clemente. The fifth-ranked Oilers, who had a 17-match win streak snapped, end their season at 23-3.

Ocean View traveled to face Pacific View League champion Camarillo, and the sixth-ranked Scorpions came away with a 25-22, 25-19, 25-22 victory in a Division 3 match. Adam Wills had 22 kills, 22 digs and two aces, Elijah Nolasco 33 digs and Kyle Langley eight kills.

The Seahawks held a 21-18 lead in both the first and third games, but ended up losing both.

Ocean View, which won the Golden West League championship, finished 16-5.

“For the most part, our play was pretty solid,” Seahawks Coach Seth Cutrell said. “We were digging balls, and our offense in transition was great. Unfortunately, we didn’t execute as well down the stretch. Camarillo did a great job playing from behind, staying focused and finishing strong.

“We had a great season this year. I’m proud of our team. We played stronger competition this year then we have in the past and beat some good teams. We went 10-0 in the Golden West league and grew as a team. I congratulate the team for a successful season.”
