Hobie keeps on rolling in playoffs
Hobie, which claimed the Laguna Beach Little League regular season Majors Division championship, started the division’s postseason tournament Tuesday and defeated Sportsworld, 15-1, in a four-inning game at Riddle Field.
Hobie scored six runs in the first inning on consecutive hits by Josh McManus, Jack Wills, Jack Loechner, Thomas Garcia, Lance Stewart, Kyle McCombs and Will Lichtenstein. In the second inning, Hobie scored four more runs behind consecutive hits by Grady Morgan, Wills, McManus and Loechner, who homered. Lichtenstein also had a two-out, two-run single in the inning. Hobie continued its scoring in the third inning. After Morgan walked, Wills singled and McManus reached base on an error, Loechner hit his second home run of the game to make it 14-0.

UPS Store 8, Morgan Stanley 1: UPS scored a first-round victory by defeating Morgan Stanley at Riddle Field.
Daniel Kimball struck out nine in 4 2/3 innings and was one strike away from a shutout. Lance Detweiler pitched in relief to get the final out. Kimball also doubled and singled on offense and drove in four runs. Casey Sorensen and Dylan Brashier each got on base three times on singles and walks for UPS.
Scotty Plowden singled twice for Morgan Stanley.
Morgan Stanley 13, American Legion 8: Morgan Stanley stayed alive in postseason play Wednesday by eliminating American Legion.
Charlie Pillsbury, Max Schuster, Aryton Garcia and Paxson Burzell all scored in the top of the first inning to give American Legion a 4-0 lead, but Morgan Stanley answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame, with Christian Holm, James Loughlin, Brooks Hogenauer, Zack Bonnin and Drake Fish all scoring.
With the help of Cole Hunt, Will Kearney, Hayden Myers, Zack Falkowski and Jett Rocha, American Legion scored four more runs. In all, Legion stole 12 bases and received strong pitching from Jeremy Hayes and Kelly Smith.
Morgan Stanley had strong contributions from starting pitcher Scotty Plowden, who pitched two-plus innings. The hitting of Aiden McDennon twice put runners in scoring position and James Loughlin led Morgan Stanley offensively with a double, single, walk, three stolen bases and two runs scored.

Modern Alloys 8, Bushards 7: Modern Alloys advanced in division play by edging Bushards in a close game at Riddle Field. Quinn Novick, Oliver Makel and Lucas Hagopian gave strong pitching performances for Alloys. Julian Williams-Goldberg and Casey Bohem were solid on the mound for Bushards. Jamie MacKay, Leo DeMichele and Sam Tyrel had RBIs for Alloys, and Williams-Goldberg went three for three with a home run for Bushards.
