UCI’s Jock wins 800 preliminary heat

NCAA West Preliminary Round
AUSTIN, Texas — UC Irvine senior Charles Jock won his first-round heat in the 800 meters Thursday.
Jock had a time of 1 minute, 49.73 seconds at Mike A. Myers Stadium to advance to the quarterfinals Friday at 5 p.m. PT. The top 12 following the quarters will move on to the NCAA Championships June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Anteater senior Jacob Yowell also advanced to the quarterfinals in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 51.57 to place third in his first-round heat. The quarters are at 5:30 p.m. PT Friday with the top 12 earning spots in the NCAA Championships.
Yowell had the eighth-fastest time of the 48 competitors Thursday.

NCAA West Preliminary Round
AUSTIN, Texas — UC Irvine junior Ericka Nowell and senior Amber Middleton did not advance from the first round of the 400-meter hurdles Thursday.
Nowell had a time of 60.77 in her first-round heat and Middleton ran 62.62.
Middleton competes in the first round of the 100-meter hurdles Friday at 3:30 p.m. PT.
