Dries helps U.S. get past Hungary

Annika Dries of Laguna Beach scored one goal Wednesday and the U.S. Olympic women’s water polo team scored a 14-8 victory over Hungary at Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos. The game was the second of a four-game exhibition series between the two countries.

Dries scored her goal on a power play in the first quarter and it gave the U.S. a 3-1 lead.

The U.S. also won the exhibition series opener Monday with a 17-8 victory at Stanford University in Palo Alto. Dries, a student at Stanford, scored the final U.S. goal late in the fourth quarter that put the lead at 17-7. The series opener was played before an overflow crowd of 3,042 at Avery Aquatics Center.

The teams also play Friday at UC San Diego and conclude the series with a 3 p.m. match Sunday at Corona del Mar High. Sunday’s finale will be televised live on NBC Sports Network.

Baseball camp starts Tuesday

Laguna Beach High’s baseball program will host a camp for incoming players (grades 7-8) starting Tuesday at Skipper Carrillo Field. The camp runs from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays through July 26. The cost is $180 per camper.

Softball academy debuts next week

Laguna Beach High softball Coach Alan Ludloff and collegiate player Kandy Francis will lead the Summer Softball Academy, starting Tuesday ( at Thurston Middle School in Laguna Beach.

The camp runs from 1 to 3 p.m. each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, through Aug. 9, and has sessions for players ages 7 to 12 and 13 to 18. Space is limited.

Beach volleyball camp starts Monday

Lance Stewart is holding a series of summertime volleyball camps starting in July. The camps are as follows: Beach Volleyball, starting Monday through Aug. 24); Elementary Schools (July 30-Aug. 6); Middle School (July 16-Aug. 3); Incoming Freshmen through Seniors (July 16-Aug. 3); Incoming Freshmen through Seniors Strength and Conditioning (July 23-Aug. 17); VolleyballNOW Specialized Camps (July 21-22, 29, Aug. 4-5).

Panaro to head volleyball camps

A summer volleyball camp run by Laguna Beach High boys’ volleyball Coach Scott Panaro starts Aug. 6. The dates for the three camps are Aug. 6-9, Aug. 13-16 and Aug. 20-23.

Camps are from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dugger Gym on the Laguna campus and are open to players grades six through 12. The cost is $165 per camp. Registration information can be found at https://www.lagunabeachcity.net.

Tennis, swim camps available

The Champions for Life Tennis and Swim Camp, and summer tennis workouts for Junior Tournament Players, are open through Aug. 13 at Alta Laguna Park in Laguna Beach. Cardio Tennis sessions also are available at Alta Laguna Park.
