Bauermeister memorial set
A memorial service for Ken Bauermeister, who coached baseball and football for 27 years at Newport Harbor High, will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 18 at Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Costa Mesa.

Bauermeister, the father of Estancia High Principal Kirk Bauermeister, died Saturday morning. He was 84.
Ken Bauermeister was also a zone coordinator and head of umpires for Harbor Area Baseball for many years.
He retired in 1989 from Newport Harbor, where he taught social studies. He was an assistant football and baseball coach for the Sailors.
Ken Bauermeister, a native of Iowa, also coached at North High in Omaha, Neb., where his baseball team was ranked No. 3 in the nation in 1961.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn, daughter Linda Bauermeister, son Kirk Bauermeister, daughter-in-law Denise Bauermeister, sister Grace Lucas and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to City of Hope, located at 1500 Duarte Road, Duarte, Calif. or Hospice Care of California, 377 E. Chapman Ave. Suite 280, Placentia, Calif.
Presbyterian Church of the Covenant is located at 2850 Fairview Road.
