Briefs: Trio honored at awards dinner
Laguna Beach High seniors Spencer Anderson, Robert Clemons III and Adam Farsheed were among those honored Feb. 25 as scholar-athletes by the National Football Foundation Orange County Chapter at the Anaheim Convention Center.
The three were joined at the event by Laguna Beach High Athletic Director Mike Churchill, who coached the trio during the past two football seasons.
Anderson, who starred at offensive guard and defensive end, was the 2012 Orange Coast League Lineman of the Year. Clemons played receiver/defensive back/special teams, and set numerous school records last fall. Farsheed played on the offensive line and was the Breakers’ No. 3 linebacker.
Both Anderson and Clemons were team captains and went on to be named to the 2012 All-CIF Southern Section Southern Division Football Team.
An athlete needed to carry a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 and be a first-team all-league selection to be invited to the scholar-athlete event.
“In a school that flourishes with outstanding students, it was something special to work with these three outstanding student athletes,” Churchill said. “They have excelled in athletics, academics, and I am sure that they will be outstanding citizens, too. These last two years have been a pleasure to coach such outstanding young people. I am so happy that the National Football Foundation has taken it upon themselves to honor the best of the best.”
