Spring Break Invitational

IRVINE — Itos Aikhonbare won the shot put with the second best mark in UC Irvine history to lead the Anteaters on the second day of the invite at Anteater Stadium Saturday.

Aikhonbare won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 50 feet, 2 inches (15.29m). The sophomore also placed fifth in the discus with a mark of 150-03 (45.81m).

Kaycee Holcomb placed third in the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes, 32.12 seconds, while Samia Sailinuu was sixth at 4:36.85.

In the 400 hurdles, Kaulyn Lee McNiell placed fourth (61.89) and KayC Wharton was fifth (62.51).

Lacey Surak was fourth in the javelin 131-03 (40.02), while Megan Benson was eighth in the 100 hurdles and Lauren Hackney was eighth in the 400 meters (57.48).

Grand Cayon’s 4x100 relay team (Brianne Kee, Samantha Bogatz, Petra Fanty, Shavine Hodges) set a meet record with a time of 45.39.

Spring Break Invitational

IRVINE — Sophomore Riley Martin won the 800 meters to lead UC Irvine on the second day of the invite at Anteater Stadium Saturday.

Martin won the 800 meters in a personal-best time of 1.52.46.

James Douglass placed fourth in the 400 hurdles in 53.62 and eighth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.89.

Sophomore Steven Malena finished fourth in the 3,000-meters, while Matt Tyson was sixth in the 400 meters (48.74) and Mason Miller was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 53 feet.

The 4x100 relay team of Mike Kennedy, Tyson, Mike Graf and Julian Lujan finished fifth in 42.22.

Several meet records were set, three of them by Grand Canyon. Grand Canyon’s Aaron Hill won the long jump at 25-09.25 (7.85m), Fred Taylor won the 200 meters (21.09) and the 4x100 relay of Aaron Hill, Taylor, Lance Parker and Dario Horvat won in a meet record time of 40.49.

Cornell’s Montez Blair won the high jump for the second consecutive year in a meet record 7-04.25.

MEN’S TENNIS

Vanguard 9, McPherson 0

COSTA MESA — Stefan Kilchhofer won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead the host Lions in the nonconference match on Saturday at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

No. 3-ranked Vanguard improved to 17-0.

McPherson fell to 12-3.

Princeton 6, UC Irvine 1

COTO DE CAZA — Jonathan Poon earned the lone point for the Anteaters in the nonconference match on Saturday.

Poon posted a 6-0, 6-3 win over Dan Davies at No. 5 singles for UCI (3-15). Poon also teamed with Tyler Pham to win at No. 2 doubles, but Princeton (11-4) claimed the doubles point.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

UC Irvine 4, Pacific 0

IRVINE — The host Anteaters rolled in the Big West Conference match on Saturday, improving to 14-3, 5-0 in conference.

Kristina Smith, Marivick Mamiit, Franziska Goettsching and Saran Stadfelt all win in singles and doubles for UCI.

Pacific is now 6-9, 1-2.
