Costa Mesa seventh-graders win league title
The Costa Mesa seventh-grade boys’ soccer team captured the Coastal Athletic League championship with a 2-0 victory over TeWinkle 2-0 March 27 at Sowers Intermediate.
It is believed to be the first time in Costa Mesa Middle School history that the seventh-grade boys’ soccer team has won a league title.
Coach Amos Hernandez is excited about the future of the Costa Mesa boys’ soccer program. Coach Hernandez also coaches the Costa Mesa High varsity team and sees potential in the middle-school athletes to raise the bar when they get to the high-school level.
The Costa Mesa eighth-grade team went undefeated in league play, but lost to TeWinkle, 2-1, in a hard-fought championship game.
The Costa Mesa seventh-grade championship team included: Jerry Rosete, Tony Riccardi, Christian Zaragoza, Jorge Merida, Anthony Osorio, Marco Vasquez, Chris Romero, Isaac Palomares, Owen Maldonado, Christian Haro, Ivan Gutierrez, Pablo Martinez, Luis Anaya, Joey Martinez, Alexis Garcia and Jose Blanco.
