Seattle signs Holley
Former Orange Coast College running back Ray Holley signed a free-agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Holley, a second-team All-Western Athletic Conference performer who rushed for 740 yards and added 324 more yards on 34 receptions as a senior at Louisiana Tech, was signed by the Baltimore Ravens in April, but was released just days later.
The 5-foot-8, 194-pounder earned MVP honors at the small school Casino Del Ray All-Star Game in Tucson, Ariz, on Jan. 11, when he rushed for 88 yards on 12 carries.
He averaged 4.8 yards per carry and 9.2 yards per reception at Louisiana Tech. for which he scored eight touchdowns as a senior in 2012.
At OCC, he rushed for a then-school-record 1,457 yards as a sophomore tailback. He had 1921 career rushing yards for the Pirates, for whom he earned All-American and All-State honors.
Holly joins former UC Irvine basketball player Darren Fells with the Seahawks. Fells signed as a free-agent tight end in the off-season.
Seattle opens its preseason Aug. 8 at San Diego at 7 p.m.
