Women’s Soccer: VU’s Davidson shares honor
Vanguard University senior forward Jordan Davidson has been named Golden State Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year to highlight four Lions named to the all-conference team in women’s soccer.
Davidson, the GSAC Player of the Year and a first-team NAIA All-American as a junior after transferring from a community college in Arizona, has 11 goals and seven assists for the No. 11-ranked Lions, who take a 15-3 record into Thursday’s GSAC Tournament semifinal at Westmont.
Senior Kayla Arenas, who leads the Lions with 14 goals and six assists, made the team as a forward, while junior midfielder Jen Martin and sophomore defender Ashley McCutcheon are the other Vanguard honorees.
Martin who also spent some time at forward, has 10 goals and 12 assists for Coach Randy Dodge’s squad, which finished third in the GSAC behind No. 7-ranked Concordia and No. 3-ranked Westmont (both 14-0-3).
McCutcheon, a center defender whom Dodge said is the best player on the team this season, helped the Lions record 10 shutouts. She also has four goals and four assists. She had the lone goal in the Lions’ 1-0 win over Biola in the first round of the GSAC Tournament at home on Tuesday.
Westmont senior goalkeeper Lindsey Smith shared Player of the Year laurels with Davidson, while Concordia’s Chris Gould is the Coach of the Year.
