Stevens earns Rookie of Week honor
Newport Harbor High alumnus Dan Stevens, a freshman at Harvard University, was named the Northern Division Rookie of the Week for men’s water polo by the Collegiate Water Polo Assn.
Stevens found the back of the net in all three of Harvard’s games last weekend. He had two goals, an assist and two steals as Harvard defeated St. Francis. In the second game of the day, Harvard took on Iona, the only team to have beaten the Crimson in conference play. Stevens recorded his third hat trick of the season.
In the final game of the regular season, Stevens had another two goals as Harvard beat Fordham, 9-5.
Stevens, a two-time Daily Pilot Dream Team honoree and Sunset League MVP his senior year at Harbor, has 30 goals, 15 assists and 46 steals this season for Harvard.
Harvard serves as the host for the CWPA Northern Championships. The top-seeded Crimson scored a 9-6 win over MIT in the semifinals on Saturday, and lost, 12-4, to St. Francis in Sunday’s championship.
