Men’s Soccer: Four locals lauded by GSAC
Vanguard University freshmen Juan Arellano and Najum Paz are among four players with local ties named All-Golden State Athletic Conference in men’s soccer.
Arellano, a midfielder, had five goals and seven assists for a team-best 17 points (two points for a goal and one for an assist) to help the Lions finish 8-1-1, 4-5-1 in conference for fifth place. One of his goals was a game-winner
Paz, an Estancia High product, had five goals and two assists, with three game-winning goals for the Lions.
Costa Mesa residents Mitch Pfautz and Kevin Kiser, both of whom played at Calvary Chapel High in Santa Ana, represent Concordia and Biola, respectively, on the all-conference team.
Pfautz, a junior defender who transferred from Old Dominion University, had one goal and one assist to help the Eagles claim the regular-season conference crown. Concordia entered the week 13-4-0, 9-1 in conference.
Kiser, a senior defender, had one goal and one assist to help Biola post a 14-3-1 record, 7-3 in conference. The Eagles had 10 shutouts and outscored opponents, 43-13.
Adrian Padilla of Concordia was named Player of the Year, while Concordia’s Chris Gould was Coach of the Year.
