FULLERTON — Nicole Ballestero scored a game-high 33 points for the No. 1-ranked Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.
Taylor Belmont added 24 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for Vanguard (23-0, 12-0 in conference).
Belmont hit two free throws with seven seconds left to give the Lions an 80-77 lead.
Hope, ranked No. 14, is 19-8, 7-5.

UC Irvine 76, Cal State Northridge 72
Vanessa Aguilar hit a pair of free throws with 16 seconds remaining to secure the Big West Conference win Saturday at the Bren Center.
Senior forward Camille Buckley posted her 13th double-double with a game-high 28 points and 16 rebounds for UCI (13-13, 6-6 in conference). She went 12 of 14 from the foul line, giving her 159 for 203 for the year which is a new school record for free throws made and attempted in a season. She also added two assists, a block and two steals in 38 minutes of action.

Hope International 55, Vanguard 53
FULLERTON — Garrett Neilan scored on a layup with four seconds left to lead Hope to the upset of the No. 9-ranked Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.
Neilan led Hope (18-9, 6-6 in conference) with 19 points.
Preston Wynne scored a game-high 22 points to go with eight reboudns and five steals for Vanguard (22-5, 9-3). Keight Mason added 14 points and Chris Gorman finished with 11 points for the Lions.

BASEBALL
Orange Coast 9, Long Beach 5
Chris Iriart and Cody Nulph both had two hits and each drove in a run for the Pirates in the nonconference game Saturday.
Tommy Bell went three for with one run batted in and one run scored for OCC (11-2).
Long Beach is 3-7.

Doubleheader
San Diego Christian swept host Vanguard by the same score in each game, 6-2, in Golden State Athletic Conference action Saturday.
Thomas Mobley and Bret Collins both went two for four in the first game for Vanguard. Mobley had an RBI.
Taylor McKnight went two for three with an RBI and Jack Aru went two for four in the second game for the Lions (9-8, 5-7 in conference).
San Diego Christian is 16-4, 9-3.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO
UC Irvine Invitational
The Anteaters split during the first day of action, beating No. 15 UC Davis, 8-5, and losing to No. 4 Cal, 12-6, Saturday.
McKennna Mitchell scored four goals to lead UCI (10-5) against UC Davis.
Danielle Warde and Cambria Shockley scored two goal each for the Anteaters, who will play against Cal State Northridge Sunday at 8 a.m. in a fifth-place semifinal.

The Lions swept in singles led by No. 1 Juliet Labarthe in the Golden State Athletic Conference match Saturday at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
Vanguard, ranked No. 9, improved to 4-3, 4-0 in conference.
No. 14-ranked Concordia is 2-5, 2-2.

Concordia, ranked No. 12, is 2-4, 2-2.
