Newport Harbor’s Pilz advances to Masters

PERRIS — Newport Harbor High’s James Pilz, a 160-pounder, earned a fifth-place finish Saturday at Citrus Hill and a berth into the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario.

Pilz had qualified for the CIF Southern Section Eastern Division Individual Championshps by winning the Sunset League individual championship.

The Masters Meet is a two-day event that begins Friday.
