Five of the world’s most prominent orchestras, including four from the United States, are scheduled to perform in Costa Mesa in the 2011-12 season, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County announced last week.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic and Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra (of St. Petersburg, Russia) are slated to take center stage at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall at Costa Mesa’s Segerstrom Center for the Arts.

The five ensembles were all listed as among the world’s top 20 orchestras, according to a 2008 rating in Gramophone, a leading British monthly magazine on the world’s classical music scene.
