The satirical musical “The Book of Mormon” will return to Orange County next week.
The Broadway smash hit and winner of nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, will run from Tuesday through April 3 at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.
“The Book of Mormon,” written by Robert Lopez and the creators of the animated series “South Park,” Trey Parker and Matt Stone, follows two young men, Elder Price and Elder Cunningham, who are sent on their two-year mission to Uganda, Africa. The missionaries attempt to share their scriptures with the inhabitants of a remote village, but the young men are faced with the disinterest of the locals, who are involved in more pressing troubles such as AIDS, famine and oppression.
The show contains explicit language.
Actor Brian Beach, who plays Elder McKinley, said he was excited to join the cast.
“I watched it with everybody else whose jaw was on the ground,” Beach, 30, said by phone between rehearsal breaks at the tour’s current stop in Sacramento. “When you take away the bad language, it’s a story about being true to yourself. The message is about being who you are and listening your own heart.”
“The Book of Mormon” was performed at Segerstrom in May 2014.
