Pets of the Week: Wayne and Washburne

What better idea for the new year than welcoming a new member into your family?

Wayne and Washburne, currently in the care of Home Free Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, are available for adoption.

Wayne is a sweet and energetic 4-year-old pit bull mix. He’s full of life, loves people and appears to like other dogs as well. Cats are another matter. Wayne has a gorgeous black coat and golden eyes and is small in stature — he is about 2 feet tall, though he weighs 50 pounds.

Pit bulls are a companion/family dog breed that evolved from the outdoor farm dogs. They have been known as “nanny dogs” because they are gentle with children. Additionally, their tenacity, gameness and courage make them popular competitors in agility and obedience competitions. Wayne would make a great addition to a warm home where he would get lots of training and exercise.

Washburne, a 9-year-old German shepherd, is active but has a calm temperament. He likes to take walks and is crate-trained and very friendly with people and other dogs. This boy is a jumper and needs a yard with a high fence. German shepherds are known for their courage, devotion and ability to excel at most anything they are trained to do.

Home Free rescues dogs from high-kill shelters and abusive or neglectful situations and provides a temporary sanctuary while permanent, loving homes are found. The nonprofit also contracts with Newport Beach to provide animal shelter services.
