High School Roundup: Estancia rallies to win, takes Battle for the Bell for seventh straight year

Jeff Alai singled home pinch runner Christian Pruitt with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Eagles the Ornage Coast League victory on Tuesday at Estancia.

Estancia won the Battle for the Bell series, and the Paul Troxel Trophy, for the seventh straight year.

Pruitt was pinch running for Connor Brown, who singled.

The Eagles (14-10, 5-5 in league) trailed, 1-0, but Jake McIntyre squeezed home Colin Gardner with one out to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Brown (6-1) pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts and gave up four hits and one unearned run.

Gardner was one for four with a double and run scored and Joe Stukkie was one for two for Estancia, which plays at Costa Mesa Friday at 3:15 p.m.

Costa Mesa pitcher Ryan Lether held Estancia scoreless through six innings.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Corona del 15, Servite 4

ANAHEIM — Senior attacker Jordan Greenhall record three goals, four assists and two ground balls for the visiting Sea Kings, ranked No. 4 in the state by laxpower.com, on Tuesday.

Stephen Von Der Ahe had four goals, an assist and two ground balls for CdM (15-1).

Ryan Meckler and Eric Fries added three goals apiece, while Jason Simaan won 11 of 15 faceoffs.

The Sea Kings close out the regular season with a home contest against Encinitas La Costa Canyon, ranked No. 5 in the state, on Saturday at noon.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Newport Harbor def. Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS — Junior Landon Monroe finished with 10 kills in the Sailors’ 25-17, 25-21, 25-20 Sunset League sweep on the road Tuesday.

Carlos Rivera amassed 33 assists and Ethan Talley had four blocks.

Newport Harbor (19-6, 7-1 in league), ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, plays host to Marina on Friday at 5:45 p.m.

Costa Mesa def. Saddleback

Nick Warner had eight kills and eight digs to help lead the Mustangs to a 25-14, 25-16, 25-14 Orange Coast League home win on Tuesday.

Steven Vu had 10 kills, Simon Daniel added nine kills and Coby Pham amassed 28 assists for Costa Mesa (12-2, 6-2 in league), which was without senior standout Mason Tufuga who attended a scholarship dinner event.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 16, Northwood 2

IRVINE — Jensen Coop had four goals and two draw controls for the Sea Kings in Monday’s Pacific Coast League road game.

Kennedy Mulvaney had two goals, five assists and four draw controls for CdM (13-2, 8-1 in league). Caroline Bethel scored twice and Ellery Amdor, Kennedy McGuinness, Paige Nelson, Emily Faludy, Maria LaBruna, Lauren Rowe and Emily Cannon all added goals.

Katherine Mulvaney led CdM with two ground balls and Ashley Olson made five saves.

CdM plays at Irvine on Wednesday in its regular-season finale.

BOYS’ TENNIS

University 11, Corona del Mar 7

Bjorn Hoffmann and Pedro Fernandez del Valle swept in singles for the Sea Kings in Tuesday’s Pacific Coast League match at CdM.

Oliver Kim and Grant Brown won one doubles set for CdM (12-4, 6-2 in league), ranked No. 6 in CIF Southern Section Division 1.

University (14-1, 7-0) is ranked No. 2 in Division 1.

CdM plays host to Sage Hill in a nonleague match Wednesday.

BOYS’ GOLF

Newport Harbor 199, Marina 204

Ethan Barnes shot even-par 35 to lead the Sailors in the Sunset League match at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Mesa Linda course on Tuesday.

Drake Seigel (39), Matt Smith (41), Ryan Standt (41) and Noah Mayne (43) also scored for Newport Harbor (7-3, 6-2 in league).

The Sailors play against Edison at Big Canyon Country Club on Thursday.

Corona del Mar 190, Northwood 193

Ethan Wien, JohnMichael Jurgensen and Guy Clauss each shot one-over par 37 for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match at Oak Creek Golf Club on Tuesday.

Clay Seeber (38) and Garrett Wayne (41) also scored for CdM (10-4, 6-3 in league).

Northwood’s Derek Kim earned medalist honors with a 34.
