Biz News: Irvine mass spectrometry lab opens

An Irvine-based, privately owned mass spectrometry lab recently began operations.

Mass Spec Lab at 18226 McDurmott West was “conceived to address difficult analytical and regulatory challenges in the biomedical device, pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals industries by applying state-of-the-art mass spectrometry ... operated by seasoned post-doctorate-level analytical scientists,” according to a news release.

Mass spectrometry is an analytical chemistry technique that helps identify the amount and type of chemicals present in a sample.

Mass Spec Lab was co-founded by Marie Dvorak Christ and F. Richard Christ.

Marie Callender’s in Irvine closes

A Marie Callender’s restaurant in Irvine recently closed.

The restaurant at 15363 Culver Drive closed in late December following the Irvine Co.’s decision not to renew its lease, according to an Irvine Co. representative.

Marie Callender’s operated there for about 15 years.
