Police arrested a Costa Mesa man Thursday morning after they discovered he was driving a reportedly stolen van full of other stolen items, according to authorities.

Officers responded to the Ramada Inn at 1680 Superior Ave. in Costa Mesa around 2 a.m. after they got a call that someone there appeared to be casing the parking lot for things to steal, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Doug Johnson said.

Officers contacted the man and discovered that the van he had been driving was reported stolen from Westminster, Johnson said.

Inside the van were items that appeared to be stolen, including tools, credit cards and IDs, according to police.

Police arrested 32-year-old Mario Macias on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, and investigators are following up with potential victims to confirm that the property inside the van was stolen, Johnson said.

Macias was booked into Orange County Jail with bail set at $20,000, according to Sheriff’s Department records.
