Laguna group sees visit to Mexico as a sisterly thing to do

For the first time since 2012, a delegation of Laguna Beach Sister Cities Assn. members visited leaders of one of the city’s sister cities, San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.

The primary purpose of last month’s trip was to get acquainted with a new crop of government officials since the members’ last visit, association emeritus president and founding member Karyn Philippsen said Thursday.

Association representatives also toured a house built for a family displaced in 2014 by Hurricane Odile, which killed five people and is considered one of the strongest tropical cyclones to hit Baja California, according to a Weather Channel story.

The association and city of Laguna Beach funded the house.

The association has also forged partnerships with Menton, France, and St. Ives, England, to foster cultural, educational and business activities.
