Righeimer, Humphrey to debate Costa Mesa growth initiatives

Costa Mesa Mayor Pro Tem Jim Righeimer and City Council candidate Jay Humphrey will debate the pros and cons of local growth initiatives Tuesday night.

The debate will begin at 7 p.m. at Halecrest Park, 3107 Killybrooke Lane, Costa Mesa, according to information from the Costa Mesa Republican Assembly and the Newport-Mesa Tea Party Patriots.

Humphrey is one of the proponents of a growth-control initiative that, if passed by local voters in November, would require some larger development proposals in the city to get approval from voters, not just the City Council.

Righeimer has raised issues with that initiative and instead pushed for the council to draft a competing growth measure to go on November’s ballot. The council is expected to discuss the language of that measure at a future meeting.
