Coastal Commission chairman to speak at Wake Up Newport breakfast

California Coastal Commission Chairman Steve Kinsey will speak during Thursday’s Wake Up Newport breakfast about the mission of the state panel, which has final say over development along the coast, and about the firing in February of commission Executive Director Charles Lester.

Kinsey was appointed to the commission by the state Senate Rules Committee in 2011. He is serving his second four-year term on the commission and his third one-year term as chairman.

Wake Up Newport, presented by the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 7:15 a.m. at the Friends Room of the Newport Beach Public Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. It will precede the Coastal Commission’s meeting at Newport Beach City Hall, which starts at 9 a.m.
