A high-speed police chase with a pair of burglary suspects ended when their SUV crashed on a 405 Freeway off-ramp in Costa Mesa Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

About 5:30 a.m., Orange County sheriff’s deputies spotted a black SUV with paper plates that matched the description of a vehicle linked to a burglary at the Bad to the Bone BBQ restaurant in San Juan Capistrano earlier that morning, sheriff’s department spokesman Lt. Mark Stichter said.

Deputies started chasing the SUV in Lake Forest and followed it north on the 5 Freeway before it transitioned onto the northbound 405, according to Stichter.

At times, SUV sped along faster than 100 mph, according to Costa Mesa police.
The pair in the vehicle allegedly were seen throwing items out of the SUV, police said.

When the driver tried to exit the northbound 405 at Fairview Drive, the SUV crashed and rolled over, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Bang Le said. No other cars were involved, Le said.

Authorities said they took two men in the SUV into custody without incident. Both men were taken to a hospital to treat minor injuries, Le said. The men’s identities weren’t immediately available.

Authorities shut down portions of the off-ramp while they investigated, but it was reopened by 7 a.m.
