Irvine man identified as motorcyclist killed in Costa Mesa crash

The Orange County coroner’s office has identified the motorcyclist who died in a crash in Costa Mesa on Wednesday morning as a 30-year-old Irvine man.

Sergey Zherebnenko was riding a motorcycle in the intersection of Sunflower Avenue and Susan Street just before 8 a.m. when he and an SUV collided, according to authorities.

Paramedics pronounced Zherebnenko dead at the scene, according to the Costa Mesa Fire Department.

It’s not yet clear what caused the crash. The Costa Mesa police Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating.

Police declined to release further details Thursday morning.
