Mailbag: Improvements to Bolsa Chica impress this regular visitor

Congratulations to the Amigos de Bolsa Chica [“Wetlands marks 10-year milestone,” Sept.1]. I walk the paths on an almost daily basis, and the improvements seen over the past several years have been amazing. It’s a great place and I’m fortunate to live nearby.

I implore those with pets to consider the health of the ecosystem when visiting Bolsa Chica — or any natural site — when doing so with a four-legged companion.

I had to have strong words recently with someone there who couldn’t be bothered to pick up after her pet. She didn’t have a bag, and her excuse was that she didn’t see the offending act: How could she since she was walking about 200 feet ahead of her dog?

If one can’t take the time to clean up after a pet, they should leave the pet at home. To do otherwise is to mock the hard work that went into preserving the site for everyone’s enjoyment.

Keep our Fitness Files

I want to express my regret that Carrie Luger Slayback’s Fitness Files will be discontinued in October. Her column is well-researched and well-written.

Our family has benefited from reading the column. We always read it first. I would like to request you reconsider your decision to discontinue Fitness Files.

City clerk has proven record

I attended the Laguna Beach candidates forum hosted by Village Laguna at the City Council Chambers. For the first time in 17 years, our current city treasurer, Laura Parisi, is being opposed in her reelection by Anne McGraw.

While competition and debate for political offices should always be encouraged, we need to be cognizant about who is investing the $100 million for Laguna Beach.

Ms. Parisi has demonstrated a consistently high-investment return on our money while arguing for internal controls. On the other hand, McGraw has not shown experience in managing Laguna Beach’s large investment dollars. With her three-minute speech all she really did was attempt to attack Ms. Parisi.

This is what a candidate who really does not have the experience or education to be our city treasurer does. McGraw commented that we don’t need a treasurer who is a CPA.

Well, Ms. McGraw, if you look around at the cities you mentioned, several are in financial and legal trouble because they did not have experienced or educated personnel as their city treasurer.

As stated, I will always encourage debate in politics. However, I want my $100 million to be managed and invested by a proven and educated person (Ms. Parisi).

Thank you for disabled access

I use a wheelchair. I would like to thank the city of Costa Mesa for having the sidewalk in front of Harbor Village.

I want to show my appreciation and thanks for the new sidewalk. It is nice and smooth, and that is easier for a person who uses wheelchairs. Plus, it is beautiful.
