Seal Beach Police Department lobby to get bulletproof glass
The Seal Beach Police Department plans to modernize by installing bulletproof glass in its lobby and contracting with a new provider for computer-aided records management and regional dispatch under projects the City Council approved unanimously Monday night.
Currently, the department’s lobby at 911 Seal Beach Blvd. has only a locked door as a barrier between front desk employees and the public. The addition of bulletproof glass and some other security measures is intended to enhance safety for department employees. The council approved a $35,400 contract with KTM Enterprises Inc.
Also, Seal Beach is following suit with Cypress and Los Alamitos by contracting with SunGard for computer-aided dispatch and records management. Services provided by West Covina the past two decades don’t meet desired standards, according to a Seal Beach staff report.
SunGard’s system offers more features, such as monthly crime statistics and more-accurate records searches, staff said.
Seal Beach will pay $446,955, splitting the $1.475 million cost with Cypress and Los Alamitos.
Ongoing costs of about $195,000 annually will be distributed among the cities, with Seal Beach’s share $59,900 — $15,000 a year less than for West Covina’s service.
The transition to SunGard is expected to complete by early 2018, according to the staff report.
