Fashion Island lights up its 90-foot tree for the holidays

Fashion Island’s 90-foot Christmas tree was aglow with the light of more than 20,000 bulbs Friday night as the Newport Beach mall kicked off the holidays with an annual lighting ceremony.

The tree, which arrived Nov. 1 from Mount Shasta, also is covered with red, silver and gold ornaments. It stands in the Neiman Marcus-Bloomingdale’s Courtyard.

Fashion Island will repeat the lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Saturday, with scheduled appearances by KOST 103.5/FM radio personality Mark Wallengren, performance troupe Young Americans and, of course, Santa Claus.
