A 24-year-old woman was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of stabbing her boyfriend in the shoulder during an argument in a Costa Mesa apartment, police said.

Neighbors at the Mediterranean Village apartment complex, at 2400 Harbor Blvd., called Costa Mesa police at 10 p.m. to report yelling coming from the couple’s apartment. A few minutes later, a man called police to report that his girlfriend had stabbed him, said Sgt. Bang Le.

According to Le, when police arrived, the man’s girlfriend ran from the apartment with blood smeared on her clothing. Furniture had been overturned, and there were blood smears and drops throughout the living area. A knife police think may have been used in the stabbing was in the kitchen sink.

The boyfriend told police that an argument with his girlfriend had escalated into the throwing of cellphones. Then, the woman punched him, threw something at him and stabbed him in the shoulder, Le said.

Aubrey Volmer of Redondo Beach was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon. The man was treated for a non-life-threatening stab wound to his shoulder.
