Sherman Library & Gardens in Corona del Mar welcomed its members Thursday night to hear carolers and meet special guests from the North Pole as the site opened its second annual “Nights of a Thousand Lights” display of flowers and holiday lighting.

The public is invited to the event from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The grounds are decorated with 1,000 luminarias and other embellishments, and each section of the gardens has a different theme, including a light tunnel and a skating pond surrounded by a forest. A 20-foot Christmas tree is surrounded by colorful plants, and the Adobe Gallery has an exhibit of antique toys and classic Christmas photos.

General admission is $10 ($8 for members). Children 5 and younger are admitted free.
