4.4 quake near Devore shakes O.C.

A magnitude-4.4 earthquake that hit San Bernardino County on Tuesday evening caused shaking and rolling in Orange County.

The quake, which struck at 5:48 p.m., was centered about 2 1/2 miles southwest of Devore, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Several smaller aftershocks were recorded in that area within a half-hour after the bigger quake. Two aftershocks measured 3.8 and 3.2.

The quake was the latest of three felt in Orange County within nine days.

According to the USGS, a magnitude-3.1 earthquake struck Dec. 20 about a mile from Costa Mesa.

On Dec. 23, a magnitude-2.8 quake was centered about a mile south of Costa Mesa near the Back Bay in Newport Beach.
