Two men who robbed a pedestrian late Monday in Costa Mesa indicated they were in a gang before stealing the man’s hoverboard, police said.

The victim was riding the hoverboard around 11:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Adams Avenue when two men pulled up in a white station wagon-style car and demanded his board. The men appeared to be pointing guns at him through their heavy jackets, police Sgt. Bang Le said.

“He told the suspects ‘I don’t gang bang’ and the suspects told him ‘We do,’” Le said.

The driver of the car picked up the hoverboard, put it in the vehicle and demanded the victim’s phone. He refused and the two men got in the car and fled, Le said.

The driver was described as in his early 20s and wearing a black jacket, black shorts and a black baseball cap. The passenger was in his early 20s and wearing a black hoodie, gray sweatpants, an American flag bandana and a black bandana, Le said.
