Bark Park’s small-dog area gets upgrades

The small-dog section of Costa Mesa’s Bark Park recently reopened with about $11,000 worth of upgrades.

Soil was rehabbed, new trees were planted and the area now contains decomposed granite and new benches, gates and water bowls.

Costa Mesa church singers to perform Mozart piece

Singers from Mesa Verde United Methodist Church in Costa Mesa will join a volunteer chorus for a performance of Mozart’s “Requiem” from 4 to 5 p.m. Aug. 7.

A full orchestra also will be featured in the performance.

The show will be at the Mesa Verde UMC Music Ministry, 1701 Baker St., Costa Mesa.

Youth volleyball camp coming up in Newport Beach

Newport Harbor High School volleyball coach Dan Glenn and staff members of the Newport Volleyball Academy will help students learn the fundamentals and strategies of volleyball in a camp Aug. 1-5 for boys and girls ages 8-14.

Players will be divided by skill level.

Sessions will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. at the courts at Seashore Drive and Grant Street in Newport Beach. The fee is $150.

UCI business school fills new post for external relations

David Knuff has been appointed to the new position of assistant dean of external relations at the Paul Merage School of Business at UC Irvine.

Knuff will be responsible for aligning outreach and program offerings, according to a news release.

“As we make progress toward achieving our strategic goals, we have realigned our external relations operations to better reflect the growing number of opportunities for the school to engage with the business community,” Eric Spangenberg, Merage School dean, said in a statement.

Knuff, who joined the Merage School in 2014, previously was assistant dean and executive director of the school’s executive education program.

Junior League of Orange County gets new president

The Newport Beach-based Junior League of Orange County has named Sara Young of Irvine as its president.

Young first joined the nonprofit in 2010 and served on its training, community, fund development and operations councils.

She also is a director in the special-education department at the Capistrano Unified School District.
