Around Town: Visitor bureau announces name change to Travel Costa Mesa

The Costa Mesa Conference and Visitor Bureau has officially changed its name to Travel Costa Mesa.

“We felt it was time to make our name more impactful and recognizable,” Paulette Lombardi-Fries, the organization’s president, said in a statement. “We wanted to ensure that website visitors and readers who saw our name knew exactly what our purpose was — to inform about and encourage travel to the city of Costa Mesa.”

The bureau also has moved to a new office space at 940 South Coast Drive, Suite 265, Costa Mesa.

Spot available on Costa Mesa Senior Commission

The Costa Mesa City Council is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the city’s Senior Commission, an advisory body to the council on subjects related to the Costa Mesa Senior Center.

The vacant seat’s term expires in February 2021. Those applying must live in Costa Mesa.

Application forms are available through the city clerk’s office or at costamesaca.gov/apply.

Early College and Estancia students complete skills workshops

Nine students from Early College and Estancia high schools in Costa Mesa recently completed workshops presented by Costa Mesa nonprofit 5 Saturdays in which they got the chance to create websites and practice resumé-writing and interviewing skills.

“The biggest investment they will make in their lives is in themselves, and the 5 Saturdays program will help them expand and grow toward that end,” Early College Principal David Martinez said in a statement.

Irvine golf tournament raises $108,000 for Habitat for Humanity

TCA Architects’ 16th annual charity golf tournament in Irvine raised more than $108,000 to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Orange County.

Proceeds from the June event at Oak Creek Golf Club will go toward construction and repair of affordable housing in Anaheim, Cypress, Fullerton, Santa Ana and Westminster.

TCA Architects has locations in Irvine, Los Angeles and Oakland.

Irvine-based AIDS foundation gets new financial officer

The Irvine-based AIDS Services Foundation Orange County has named Guita Sharifi as its new chief financial officer.

Sharifi previously served as chief operations and financial officer for Rose Garden Holistic Care and worked with Garden Grove-based Acacia Adult Day Services.

The AIDS Services Foundation assists Orange County residents who live with HIV and AIDS.
