Fire destroys 3 cars outside Costa Mesa apartments
Three cars were destroyed in a fire Monday morning outside a Costa Mesa apartment complex, authorities said.
About 20 firefighters responded to the blaze just after 6:30 a.m. at a parking lot in front of the Harbor at Mesa Verde apartments at 2700 Peterson Place, said Costa Mesa fire Capt. Chris Coates.
Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to nearby garages, Coates said.
Three cars were extensively damaged by the flames, and a few surrounding cars were damaged by the intense heat, he said.
No one was injured in the fire, Coates said.
Coates said a man was seen running from the scene, but arson investigators concluded he did not play a role in the fire, which they said was accidental.
