Costa Mesa council meeting expected to be canceled

Tuesday’s scheduled Costa Mesa City Council meeting likely will be canceled because not enough members will be there to make decisions.

The city issued a notice Friday afternoon saying the meeting is expected to be called off due to lack of a quorum — meaning at least three of the council’s five members would not be present.

The meeting was to be the council’s third in as many weeks. The others — a regular meeting July 5 and a special session this past Tuesday — were barnburners, lasting more than 91/2 hours combined.

Next Tuesday’s agenda, which was released before word that the meeting was expected to be nixed, contains only four items.

All of them are on the consent calendar, meaning they are considered routine and can be approved with one motion and without discussion unless a council member, staff member or member of the public has questions or comments.

Council members had been expected to vote on a contract for the Costa Mesa Police Department to provide traffic management services for events at the OC Fair & Event Center.

The Police Department enters into such a contract each year.

Also on Tuesday’s agenda is a request to approve $111,910 to fund a software maintenance agreement with SunGard Public Sector Inc., a vendor that provides services used by the city’s police and fire departments.
