H.B. council raises parking fee for visitors attending Breitling Huntington Beach Airshow
Visitors of the three-day Breitling Huntington Beach Airshow this month can expect to pay more for parking.
This week the Huntington Beach City Council approved an additional $5 fee for cars to use the Main Promenade Parking Structure, as well as the South Beach and Pier Plaza lots.
The increase — which comes after the council approved another parking fee in April — brings the event’s daily parking charge to $25 on Oct. 21, and $30 on Oct. 22 and 23.
City officials cited a need for the fee increase because of the air show’s “substantially high costs” to host. City staffing costs for police, fire, marine safety and beach maintenance are estimated to be $194, 915, in addition to other costs required by the state to host the event.
About $32,000 will be generated on parking alone with the $5 increase, according to city staff. The funds will be added to a city event fund to host more aviation events in the future.
