Barbecue fire erupts at Huntington Beach church; 2 people injured

Two people were hospitalized after a fire broke out during a Huntington Beach church event Saturday afternoon.

The fire ignited just before 1 p.m. as the two people were changing a propane tank on a barbecue at Seabreeze Church, 18162 Gothard St., Huntington Beach fire Capt. Bob Culhane said.

The church’s website shows it was hosting an event called Upward Games involving youth sports teams.

Culhane said fire crews extinguished the blaze about 10 minutes after they arrived.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
