Woman sought in forgery of Huntington resident’s stolen check

Huntington Beach police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a woman suspected of cashing a forged check.

Police contend the woman entered a Bank of America branch in Westminster just after 3 p.m. Jan. 17 and cashed a stolen check using a name that was not hers.

A Huntington Beach resident had mailed the check to pay a bill and discovered that it had been intercepted, “washed” with chemicals to erase the original information and then made out to someone else for a different amount, according to police.

Security cameras in the bank captured photos of the woman. Police described her as in her late 30s or early 40s with a slim build and shoulder-length reddish brown hair that might have been dyed. She was wearing a black hat and a pink and black long-sleeved flannel shirt.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Huntington Beach Police Department at (714) 960-8811.
