Local events celebrate Independence Day
As Americans celebrate the nation’s 240th anniversary, here’s a look at major local Independence Day events Monday:
NEWPORT BEACH
4th of July Newport Beach
When: 3 to 9 p.m.
Where: Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina, 1131 Back Bay Drive
Details: Newport Dunes and the city of Newport Beach present an Independence Day festival with live music, Moe B’s Aquatic Park , watersports equipment rentals, a buffet dinner at Back Bay Bistro, a beer and wine garden and a fireworks display.
Schedule:
• 3 to 3:45 p.m.: DJ music
• 4:30 to 5:15 p.m.: Tom Solis Band (rock, alternative and blues)
• 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.: Buffet dinner
• 6 to 7 p.m.: Mirage (Fleetwood Mac tribute)
• 7:45 to 9 p.m.: DSB (Journey tribute)
• 9 p.m.: Fireworks
Cost: Entrance, $50 per car; aquatic park, $25; dinner, $45 for adults and $22.50 for children 10 and younger; beer and wine garden, $40

Old Glory Boat Parade
When: 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Where: Beginning at Collins Island and sailing throughout Newport Harbor
Details: The American Legion Yacht Club presents this annual parade of boats in patriotic decor. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Our Heroes.”

IRVINE
Concert on the Green & Fireworks Festival
When: 3 to 9 p.m.
Where: Irvine High School stadium, 4321 Walnut Ave.
Details: The Irvine Police Association presents this 32nd annual festival with gourmet food trucks, live music by the Derek Bordeaux Group, games and bounce houses for children, raffle prizes and a fireworks finale.
Cost: $15 for adults, $10 for children 13 and younger and senior citizens 60 and older

July 4 Spectacular – The Music of Michael Jackson
When: 8 p.m.
Where: Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, 8808 Irvine Center Drive
Details: The Pacific Symphony, rock group Windborne and vocalist James Delisco present a concert featuring the best-known hits of the “King of Pop.” The show will open with patriotic tunes and close with fireworks.
Cost: $25 to $158 for adults; tickets start at $12 for children younger than 14
