92-year-old bicyclist injured in Newport Beach crash

A 92-year-old bicyclist was taken to a hospital with a head injury Monday evening after colliding with a car on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach.

The crash occurred at Seventh Street and Balboa Boulevard around 6:40 p.m., Newport Beach police said.

The circumstances were not immediately clear, said police Sgt. Justin Morouse.

The man’s bicycle helmet was destroyed in the crash, Morouse said. He was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana.

Neither the cyclist nor the driver of the car appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to police.
