Newport Beach man, 19, critically injured in crash
A 19-year-old man was hospitalized after the car he was driving crashed in Newport Beach on Sunday evening, according to police.
The man, a Newport Beach resident, was driving a Honda Civic south on Newport Coast Drive just south of Pelican Hills Road North around 6:20 p.m. when the car left the road, rolled over and hit a tree, Newport Beach police said. The driver was partially ejected from the car, authorities said.
Paramedics took him to Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach. Police said he was in critical condition but is expected to survive.
No one else was in the car, and no other vehicles were involved, police said.
It’s unclear whether the driver was wearing a seat belt.
Police are still investigating the crash and asked that anyone with information contact Investigator Chris Burns at (949) 644-3747 or cburns@nbpd.org.
