A dog was rescued and two people were displaced after a fire ignited in the driveway of a Newport Beach townhome, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at the Bordeaux Townhomes at 302 Ambroise at 5:51 p.m. Friday and found heavy black smoke coming from a garage, the Newport Beach Fire Department said.

Firefighters found that a sedan in the garage was leaking fuel that ignited on the driveway.

The fire spread to the garage, but firefighters extinguished the flames before they could spread to the townhome and others nearby, the Fire Department said.

The home sustained minor smoke damage and the owners were displaced, the department said.

While searching the home, firefighters found a 10-year-old dog hiding in a closet. The dog was uninjured and was returned to the homeowners, the department said.
