New police chief to address Speak Up Newport meeting

Guests at Wednesday’s Speak Up Newport meeting will have a chance to learn more about Newport Beach’s new police chief.

Jon Lewis, who took over in March as the city’s 10th chief, replacing the retired Jay Johnson, has spent his entire law enforcement career in the Newport Beach Police Department, starting as a cadet in 1991 and steadily moving up the ranks.

Lewis is expected to discuss his life before police work, along with local and national law enforcement issues and his vision and goals for the Police Department.

The program will begin at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center Community Room, 100 Civic Center Drive, Newport Beach.
