Los Angeles Times Community News plans to launch a website and email newsletter devoted to Orange County, company executives said Thursday.

TimesOC.com will debut July 6.

The site will feature Orange County journalism produced by The Times, Daily Pilot, Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot, Huntington Beach Independent and Weekend.

Readers will be able to opt into a free, five-day-a-week email blast of Orange County headlines.

TimesOC.com will be hosted by the larger Times website, latimes.com, but have its own URL and identity. The page, designed and built by The Times, will be edited by Times Community News (TCN) editors in Orange County.

TimesOC.com will be free for 60 days. After that, any print or digital subscription to The Times will allow access.

The Times and TCN already produce multiple stories, photos and videos about Orange County every day, said John Canalis, TCN executive editor.

“This will put our best work about O.C. in one place,” he said. “Readers that are interested in what’s happening in the region can now access all of our relevant news and information very easily.”

The same is true for advertisers who want to reach an Orange County-focused digital audience, said Marissa Contreras, O.C. advertising director for The Times and TCN, adding that dedicated sponsors will support the site and newsletter.

TimesOC’s navigation bar will include tabs for Daily Pilot, Weekend, Business, News and the Angels and Ducks. The individual sites dedicated to the Daily Pilot, Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot and Huntington Beach Independent, will continue. Weekend’s content, however, will move onto TimesOC.

TimesOC is the latest in a series of investments the company is making in Orange County journalism, Canalis said.

Weekend, which provides lifestyle and entertainment coverage to all print and digital subscribers in Orange County, launched a year ago and is showing a profit, he said.

“It made sense to build a digital companion site that also provides news, business, sports and other essential information to readers who live and work in O.C.,” he added.
