Uber driver from H.B. suspected of sex assault on passenger in Laguna

An Uber driver from Huntington Beach was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female passenger near her Laguna Beach home, authorities said Tuesday.

Police responded to a report of a sexual assault at 2:31 a.m. Saturday, Laguna Beach police Sgt. Tim Kleiser said.

Kleiser said police would not release the name of the street where the alleged assault occurred to protect the victim.

The attacker fled the scene before police arrived, Kleiser said.

Detectives worked with Uber to identify and locate a suspect, Kleiser said.

Samer Mahran, 22, was arrested at his home hours after the incident was reported, Kleiser said.

Mahran was booked at Orange County Jail on suspicion of sexual assault. His bail was set at $100,000.
